Free Pattern: Manly Scarf

Almost two years ago (!) I knit up a scarf for my picky significant other. I posted about it on the blog and mentioned I would write up the pattern details.

Well, a bit of time passed and I forgot to post the pattern! I received a little poke the other day from a knitter inquiring - "did I ever write up this pattern?"

I did not! It totally slipped my mind.

And, since the original scarf I knitted was from 2 years ago, it has seen better days :)

So I decided to knit up a quick swatch to show you the stitch pattern detail.

Sample swatch was knit up in Swans Island Organic Merino Bulky in logwood.

The Manly Scarf pattern

Materials:

US 9 needles

~430 yards of worsted weight wool (Malabrigo Merino Worsted used in top photo above - Tortuga colorway)

Gauge (before blocking):

10 sts = 2" in pattern stitch

Finished Measurements (before blocking):

7" wide; 80" long

Pattern:

Cast on 34 sts.

Row 1: K2, *P2, K2; rep from * to end.

Row 2: P2, *K2, P2; rep from * to end.

Row 3: P2, *K2, P2; rep from * to end.

Row 4: K2, *P2, K2; rep from * to end.

Work in established 4 row pattern until scarf measures 80" from cast on edge.

Bind off loosely in pattern.

Weave in ends. Block if desired.

I hope you enjoy the pattern! Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions!

Featured FO: Neck Truffles!!

The neck truffle was one of my very first patterns. It originated when I was working at a lovely LYS in Chicago called Nina.

Inspiration came from blustery winter days and an instinctual need to knit with the bulkiest, warmest yarns in sight.

An interesting way to transform the simplest-shape-to-knit rectangle is to attach the bind off edge to the side edge, creating an asymmetrical piece that can be worn inside a winter coat, or used as a snuggly office neck warmer.

Seeing the variations people have created on Ravelry has been a delight - with over 250 projects, I've discovered solid and rainbow, multicolored versions, as well as truffles laced with ribbons and fastened with buttons and toggles!

Today's featured FOs are lovely examples of how different the neck truffles can be styled. First, a simply beautiful version from ThatKnitChick (Jenn).

(C) ThatKnitChickJenn used Malabrigo Rasta in Archangel and simply seamed the bind off edge to the side of her finished rectangle. Viola! A classic, unfussy variation on the original pattern. I love it!

Next, we have a few truffles knit up by pnason (Patty).

(C) pnasonWhat great photos - look at the color variation and stitch definition Patty got using Malabrigo Rasta in Porrinho. Gorgeous! The pink ribbon on this version makes it very sweet ;)

(C) pnasonPatty also worked up a teal version of the neck truffle using Malabrigo Rasta in Teal Feather.

(C) pnasonI really like the size of this FO - it's got a nice large, slouchy quality to it.

(C) pnasonMany thanks to Jenn and Patty for letting me using their beautiful images!

Free Pattern: Mogul Cowl & Infinity Scarf Recipe

my Mogul Cowl & Infinity Scarf Recipe is now available for free on Ravelry.

(C) breeanelyse

the Mogul Cowl & Infinity Scarf Recipe is written to serve as a guide for creating any size cowl using the angular basket weave stitch pattern. though the featured samples and pattern recipe show two sizes: Small and Large, it is up to the knitter to determine the finished size and fabric drape for their cowl.

© knittygrrlkuUsing a variety of yarns and needle sizes, this cowl’s stitch pattern is a multiple of 8 stitches, making it simple for the knitter to customize based on desired gauge and finished dimensions.

(C) NoodieKnits

The pattern recipe is written with instructions shown as Small (Large). If you choose to knit a size other than these, you will need to do a bit of math, but you can use this recipe as a general guideline.

I recommend yarns ranging from DK to chunky weight. You will need between 200 – 400 yards depending on gauge and finished measurements.

thanks to my testers, knittygrrlku, NoodieKnits, and h82purl!
